A Democratic way of life should be a given and not something we have to fight for. I chose to be a member of the Australian Democrats as the Party’s 23 Objectives uphold the principles of true democracy.

In 2000 I saw there were internal challenges with GST still creating problems for the Party and issues arising from the position taken on some matters by leader Meg Lees creating fractures with the members and Senators. Concerned for the Party I joined to offer constructive support.

From here I became very active with State & Branch meetings to learn about politics, the Party system, and Policies including Environment, Human rights/Euthanasia and Health. I progressed on to roles on NSW State Executive as Policy Co-ordinator for 3 years, and Vice President for 3 years on State Executive and this year also nominating as deputy president on the National Executive. I also assisted Arthur Chesterfield and Aden Ridgeway in their State and Federal elections campaign.

Presently my business of 17 years, MTM Humanities Consultancy, offers services in personal & professional development and empowerment through psychotherapy, mentoring, consultantancy and workshops. Previously I worked in the media industry for 15 years with experience as a producer/director in film, television and radio with major advertising agencies & TV networks.

I offer my professional and personal life experience to assist the Australian Democrats and the Australian public in these critical times for democracy. I am running as a Democrat in the Federal election to help continue the Democrats' role of 25 years as guardians of the Senate and to help stop the abuse of power shown by the Howard Government's liberty with the Senate, using it to 'rubber stamp' as much legislation as possible.

Another concern for democracy is the subtle control by the Howard Government over journalists' ‘freedom of speech’ in the media, presented under the guise of protecting Australians against terrorism. The Democrats introduced a Parliamentary Charter of Rights and Freedoms in Federal Parliament in 2001. We have consistently raised the need for a Bill of Rights both in and outside Parliament, and are committed to pressing forward with our campaign once again following the election.

It’s a critical time get actively involved in our essential role in democratic process. I call on the public at large to support our democratic rights by voting 1 Democrats in this Federal Election so we can resume our essential role in the Senate.
