Peter has lived in the area now covered by Bennelong for over 20 years, the last ten with his family in Eastwood. Peter wants his children growing up in a local and national community where people's differences are celebrated rather than exploited and where the Australian population no longer feels disenfranchised from the political process.

Peter is a community nurse and has worked in public health care since commencing his nursing training in 1984. With his children now finished or in late high school Peter says it is time for him to give something back to the community. He can no longer sit back and simply observe the impact John Howard's 'vision' is having on Australia — especially on multiculturalism (which is now a politically incorrect term with conservatives).

Peter's own vision of a community that he wants his children to inherit is inspired by the Democrats' commitment to quality public education and health care, reconciliation with Australia's traditional owners, the party's strong environmental record and its emphasis on social justice.

Peter is standing in Bennelong to give voters the small 'l' liberal option that the Democrats represent, needed more than ever in a an electorate where the incumbent is the Prime Minister. Just look at how John Howard has behaved with the Workchoices legislation since he won control of both houses. Do voters really want him to continue exercising this power?
